Murder trial hears of blood stains in accused man's home

Evidence of a number of blood stains found at the home of a man accused of stabbing another man to death was heard today at the Central Criminal Court.

Evidence of a number of blood stains found at the home of a man accused of stabbing another man to death was heard today at the Central Criminal Court.

Valerij Makarov (aged 25), also known as 'Andris Simonis', Earlsfort Drive, Lucan, Co Dublin, who has pleaded not guilty to the murder of Tomas Lukosevicious (aged 30), on May 11, 2003 in Lucan.

The accused has also pleaded not guilty to causing intentional or reckless harm to Mr Aldevinias Gudavicious (aged 34) and to threatening to harm Jonas Bernotas (aged 21) on the same date in Lucan.

Garda Geraldine Doherty of the Ballistics Unit, Garda Technical Bureau, arrived at the scene of the fatal stabbing in Earlsfort Drive at 11.30pm on the night in question, the court heard.

She entered the home of the accused and found blood-staining "on two mats inside the house in the form of drops", Garda Doherty said.

There was a further swipe mark of blood down the hallway, the court heard.

In the kitchen, attempts had apparently been made to clean up blood.

"The area between the kitchen table appeared to have blood wipe marks, it seems that someone may have attempted to clear up these marks," she said.

She found further evidence of apparent blood in the kitchen on a j-cloth and a wet tea towel, "which appeared to be stained with blood", Garda Doherty told the court.

Defence counsel Mr Sean Guerin BL told the court: "The tea towel was not blood-stained, it was dirt-stained."

The examination of the exterior of the home revealed a car in the driveway of the accused had been vandalised.

"The car had smashed windows and part of a cement block was lodged in the window of the car," Garda Doherty said.

The court has heard that three men went to the home of the accused for a "friendly discussion" of a payment allegedly promised back by the accused for the procurement of a job for Mr Bernotas.

Mr Lukosevicious bled to death from nine stab wounds, the jury of five men and seven women has heard.

The trial continues tomorrow before Mr Justice Barry White.
