Monday’s TV tips

Britain’s Got Talent – Live Semi-finals (TV3, 7.30pm)

The King of entertainment Simon Cowell, David Walliams, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon, take their seats on the judging panel for nations most loved talent competition. They have been stunned, entertained and moved to tears on their hunt for the best talent around.

They are joined by the nation’s favourite TV duo Ant and Dec, who are on hand to encourage the acts and to congratulate or commiserate with them following their auditions.

The lucky act who is crowned the winner in the live grand final will secure a life changing cash prize of £250,000 and the opportunity to perform at this year’s The Royal Variety Performance.

Springwatch 2015 (BBC2, 8pm)

RSBP Minsmere on the Suffolk coast is widely regarded as the one of the best nature reserves in the UK, if not Europe. So, it makes the ideal setting for the latest series of Springwatch, which is back for an impressive three-week run.

It also means that presenters Chris Packham, Michaela Strachan and Martin Hughes-Games are unlikely to run out of things to talk about between now and June 11, as Minsmere’s dunes, grasslands and shingle beaches become home to rare birds, including marsh harriers, avocets, and bitterns.

The focus isn’t just on our feathered friends, as in a Springwatch first, three families of badgers have been fitted with GPS trackers, while roving reporter Iolo Williams will be filing reports from the far north of the British Isles.

Damned Designs: Don’t Demolish My Home (C4, 8pm)

In the Hertfordshire green belt, David Lloyd battles to save the luxury log cabin he’s lived in since 2003 after importing it from Canada. With time running out, he takes drastic steps to delay its destruction.

Meanwhile, Jon Martin faces a dilemma over whether he should honour a demolition order or save a group of endangered bats nesting in the straw house he built near Bristol.

Eastender Brian Gage admits he likes a battle, but as his more recent dispute draws to a conclusion, events take a bizarre and life-threatening turn. Last in the series.

Avengers Assemble (BBC1, 8.00pm)

(2012) When a dangerous new enemy threatens the safety of mankind, Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson), director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., scours the globe in search of the ultimate team of superheroes.

Aided by fellow agent Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders), Fury recruits Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr), The Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) to save the day.

At first, it proves difficult to get these strong personalities to meld, especially with Thor’s evil brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) causing mischief. But evil must be vanquished and the heroes come together in humanity’s hour of greatest need under the direction of Joss Whedon.

Big Brother (TV3, 9pm)

Brand new to TV3, the sixteenth series of the groundbreaking reality show, Big Brother, hits our screens with a brand new bunch of eccentric, entertaining and unique housemates.

Hosted by Emma Willis, the new ‘Timebomb’ theme will see a Mad Men-influenced, '60s-style decor for the new house as part of an upbeat, glamorous, thrilling and mischievous series.

Big Brother will play with time during tasks and have secret missions to create tension in the house.

Benefits Street (C4, 9pm)

The documentary series catches up with Maxwell as he fixes his front door after another police raid searching for drugs.

The rebellious Kingston Road resident is determined not to return to jail and pleads his innocence.

Meanwhile, Sue anxiously waits for her daughter Lisa to give birth, and mum-of-six Julie shares her thoughts on parenting as she celebrates her 53rd birthday at home with her family.

Gotham (Channel 5, 9pm)

The promising first season of the superhero drama prequel reaches an explosive conclusion, as Fish goes head-to-head with Maroni and Penguin in an attempt to regain the city.

However, the dispute escalates into a full-blown mob war that leaves all three fighting for their lives. Meanwhile, Barbara agrees to undergo trauma therapy with Dr Leslie Thompkins, and Bruce goes on a frantic search for clues in his father’s old study at Wayne Manor.

Eventually he finds a remote control with a single button, and steps that lead down to a cave...

The Night Bus (Channel 4, 10pm)

Viewers alight the Night Bus for one final time, as the series studying London’s late-night transport draws to a close.

During the short run we have seen all kinds of goings-on aboard the capital’s buses, courtesy of the 16-camera rig.

And there has been a whole kaleidoscope of people from all walks of society featured – some of whom call London their home, as well as many who are just visiting, and those who make their money there.

Tonight, one unlucky passenger is devastated when she has her phone stolen while on board.

Episodes (BBC2, 10.30pm)

Tim Whittick, Sean’s former writing partner, arrives in town armed with notes for a project he and Sean developed years ago that shares a strong similarity to The Opposite of Us.

All too aware of past tensions with Tim, Beverly ducks out of lunch with the resentful Brit and forces Matt to take her to the Golden Globes gifting suite.

Over at the network, Merc Lapidus is pitching a new game show based on a Dutch format to Helen and Carol. However, he only has the vaguest understanding of the rules.

Comedy, starring Stephen Mangan, Tamsin Greig and Matt LeBlanc.
