Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny today denied that speculation about a possible alliance with Sinn Féin has overshadowed the party's political campaign going into this week's elections.
It comes in the wake of comments made by the party's director of elections, Frank Flannery, which indicated that Fine Gael would consider a coalition pact with Sinn Féin in the future.
Speaking in Dublin this afternoon, Enda Kenny said speculation about party alliances were an unnecessary distraction from Friday's local and European polls.
Kenny also said he had spoken to Mr Flannery "to remind him of his position", and reiterated that the comments did not reflect FG policy.
