Britain lose world relay silver

The International Association of Athletics Federations today confirmed the deadline for Dwain Chambers to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport against his drugs ban has passed.

The International Association of Athletics Federations today confirmed the deadline for Dwain Chambers to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport against his drugs ban has passed.

The 26-year-old sprinter was banned for two years until November 6, 2005 after testing positive for the designer steroid tetrahydrogestrinone (THG) last August.

Chambers’ initial appeal was rejected in February, but he was given the right of appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland. However, he has not exercised that right.

The expiry of the deadline means Britain have officially been stripped of the men’s 100m relay silver medal from last year’s world championships in Paris and all of Chambers’ performances from August 1, 2003 have been annulled.

A statement from the IAAF today read: “Following expiry of the deadline, under IAAF rules, for Dwain Chambers to appeal his doping offence to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, his two years of ineligibility until November 6, 2005 is confirmed.

“As a result of Mr Dwain Chambers’ offence, all his performances from the date on which his sample was provided, August 1, 2003, need to be annulled.”
