Two people have been killed and three hospitalised following a crash in Co Kilkenny this evening.

Two people have been killed and three hospitalised following a crash in Co Kilkenny this evening.

The two-car collision occurred approximately 2.5 miles outside Kilkenny at Troyswood on the Freshford road, at around 6.45pm.

Three people were travelling in one car. A 65-year-old man and 61-year-old woman died, while another woman was taken to St Luke's Hospital, Kilkenny.

Two people in the second car were also taken hospital. The extent of their injuries is not known.

The road is closed for a forensic collision examination and diversions are in place.
