MEP blames solicitor for failure to show up in court

Leinster MEP Avril Doyle has insisted that her failure to show up for a court case in Dublin yesterday was the result of a diary error by her solicitor.

Leinster MEP Avril Doyle has insisted that her failure to show up for a court case in Dublin yesterday was the result of a diary error by her solicitor.

The presiding judge at Dublin District Court issued a warrant for Ms Doyle’s arrest after she failed to show up to answer charges of dangerous driving, careless driving and driving without reasonable consideration.

The charges, which are being contested by the Wexford MEP, related to a collision between her car and another vehicle on the M50 in Santry in March of last year.

Ms Doyle, who is seeking re-election to the European Parliament this June, said her no show was a result of a diary error by her solicitor, Andrew Coonan, who was supposed to represent her in court.

Mr Coonan’s firm also issued a statement accepting full responsibility for the matter.
