British Airways today bolstered its board by announcing the appointment of top lawyer Denise Kingsmill as a non-executive director.
The airline said New Zealand-born Ms Kingsmill, who is a former deputy chairman of the British Competition Commission, would strengthen the board in areas such as competition and legal issues.
Ms Kingsmill is also a non-executive director of the UK's Home Office and chaired the Department of Trade and Industry’s Accounting for People task force until December 2003.
During her time at the Competition Commission she was inquiry chairman in the investigation that led to Lloyds TSB’s takeover of Abbey National being blocked.
BA chairman Martin Broughton said: “We are delighted that Denise will be joining the board. Her extensive experience and knowledge in competition and legal issues will provide further strength to the board in these key areas.”
The lawyer carried out the Kingsmill Review into women’s employment and pay during 2001, examining the pay gap between the salaries of men and women.
