Vijay Singh has been awarded honorary life membership of the European tour.
The Fijian, at Wentworth this week for the Volvo PGA championship starting on Friday, climbed all the way from tour qualifying school failure in 1987 to US PGA champion in 1998 and Masters champion last season.
Earlier this year, Singh took his number of tour titles to 11 when he won the Malaysian Open and Singapore Masters.
The 38-year-old world number six described himself delighted by the award.
‘‘I’ve always enjoyed playing on the European tour,’’ he said. ‘‘I’ve always felt very much at home in Europe and I will be back to play here a lot more.
‘‘My son was born in Europe and I hope that one day he can be part of tn tour. I will always cherish this great honour.’’
