Manchester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has signed a two-year contract extension at Eastlands – but could be loaned out to gain first-team experience.
The 19-year-old Dane, son of Manchester United great Peter Schmeichel, has committed himself to the club until 2008 but admits he needs to develop before competing with first-choice David James.
“The aim is to get into the first team here but for the moment I just need to get some games,” Schmeichel told the club’s official website, www.mcfc.co.uk.
“It’s all about development and I’m still young in goalkeeping terms so I need to keep developing in the immediate future.
“I’m delighted and really pleased. I’ve just got to keep working hard now. Hopefully now I can get a few games out on loan and a few first team games where there is real pressure on.”
