Chelsea held at Goodison

Everton 1 Chelsea 1

Everton 1 Chelsea 1

Chelsea’s 100% Barclays Premiership record was ended by a magnificent, defiant Everton on a day of raw emotion at Goodison Park.

Leaders Chelsea arrived on Merseyside talking of winning the title by Christmas and ruling football for 100 years.

But for 90 minutes here, rock-bottom Everton defied them. James Beattie struck a first-half penalty and Frank Lampard netted a fine equaliser in the second period, but Everton deserved their morale-boosting point as they rediscovered the confidence that had been lost in a desperate start to their season.
