Rovers bid for Enckelman

Blackburn have made Aston Villa an offer to buy goalkeeper Peter Enckelman, whose loan spell at Ewood Park runs out tonight.

Rovers are keen to sign the Finn as permanent cover for Brad Friedel but it is unlikely a deal will be done in time for Enckelman to be included in the squad for tomorrow’s FA Cup match at Birmingham.

Blackburn boss Graeme Souness said: “We have made a sensible offer for him. We would like him here and Peter would like to be here but if it doesn’t work out we have a couple of other things up our sleeve.”

Steven Reid is out tomorrow with a hamstring problem and Barry Ferguson and David Thompson are long-term absentees with knee injuries. Alan Mahon is likely to continue on the left of midfield.

Provisional squad: Friedel, Enckelman or Yelldell, Johansson, Taylor, Todd, Gresko, Babbel, Neill, Short, Baggio, Flitcroft, Mahon, Emerton, Jansen, Tugay, Yorke, Cole, Gallagher.
