O'Brien has no doubts over Maybe

Maybe could head to Longchamp or Newmarket next after stretching her unbeaten record to five in the Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh.

Maybe could head to Longchamp or Newmarket next after stretching her unbeaten record to five in the Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh.

Smartly away under trainer Aidan O’Brien’s son, Joseph, the daughter of Galileo, winner of the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot, tracked the pace set by stablemate Soon.

As that one gave way, Maybe (8-13 favourite) took over with two of the seven furlongs to run and never looked likely to be caught, with Fire Lily coming out of the pack to take second, a length and three-quarters away.

Paddy Power cut Maybe to 7-2 favourite (from 5s) for the 1000 Guineas.

Stan James were unchanged at 7-2 for the Newmarket Classic, but trimmed the O’Brien filly to 5-1 from 7-1 for the Oaks.

Maybe could now follow the same route as last year’s Moyglare winner, Misty For Me, and head to Longchamp on Arc day (October 2), although Newmarket and the Fillies’ Mile could also come into the equation.

O’Brien said: “Everything went right, so I’m delighted. She’s very uncomplicated and she has the gears.

“I suppose the option would be the French race (Prix Marcel Boussac) next, that’s what we did with Misty For Me. She’s progressing and loves her racing.

“All the options are there; also the Fillies’ Mile.

“Looking at her you’d say a mile would be no problem.”

O’Brien’s Crusade showed plenty of improvement from his debut run at York to land the Mad About You EBF Maiden.

Always prominent under Colm O’Donoghue, the Mr Greeley colt, sent off the 5-2 favourite, stretched clear in the final 150 yards to win nicely.

O’Brien said: “We’ll look at the Blenheim Stakes or something like that. We’ll see how he is.”

Bible Belt (15-8 favourite) remains unbeaten this season after making it a hat-trick of wins with victory in the Dance Design Stakes.

Jessica Harrington’s rapidly-improving three-year-old would have been an unlucky loser, being trapped on the rail in mid-division at one stage, and still needing a gap when eased towards the centre.

It came two furlongs out and Fran Berry’s mount did not need asking twice thereafter, readily holding Wild Wind by a length and a quarter at the line.

Berry said: “She’s a good filly. They went a good gallop and I had to sit and suffer a bit, but as soon as the gap came it was race over.

“The obvious race would be the Blandford Stakes back here on Leger weekend.”

British raider Amour Propre regained the winning thread as he registered a convincing success in the Market Slide Flying Five Stakes.

Henry Candy’s 15-8 favourite had not managed to get his head in front since the early part of his three-year-old campaign, but a couple of seconds to Masamah this term had signalled a return to form.

Always in the front rank in this Group Three contest, Dane O’Neill asked him to go about his business inside the final quarter-mile and he burned off last year’s Nunthorpe hero Sole Power to score by a length and three-quarters, with Roicead third.

Lightening Pearl gained a deserved Pattern-race success as the Ger Lyons-trained filly turned the Go And Go Round Tower Stakes into a procession.

Johnny Murtagh enjoyed an armchair ride on the Marju filly, who was third to Maybe in the Debutante Stakes on her last run, pressing the button two furlongs out.

The response was immediate as the 6-4 favourite streaked clear under minimum pressure to score by five lengths from Experience, gaining Group Three honours in the process.

Lyons said: “Her run in the Debutante Stakes suggested she was good enough to win this. She’s not very big, but has a big heart.

“I’ll look at the Cheveley Park Stakes and the Redcar (Two Year Old) Trophy as there’s a big pot for that.

“A Group One is important so if we get a chance we’ll take it.

“The owner sponsors at Longchamp and there’s a mile race there for her, so we’ll have to decide about that.”
