NW Euro votes to be rechecked at Ganley’s request

A recheck of votes in the North West European Parliament constituency is set to get underway later this morning at the request of Libertas candidate Declan Ganley.

A recheck of votes in the North West European Parliament constituency is set to get underway later this morning at the request of Libertas candidate Declan Ganley.

The Galway businessman has raised concerns about the possible misplacing of thousands of his votes, which he believes may have been placed in another candidate's overall bundle.

Nobody was elected following the first count in the constituency, but Marian Harkin topped the poll, followed by Pat 'the Cope' Gallagher and Jim Higgins.

Mr Ganley is trailing by around 10,000 votes in fourth place, but believes the possible mix-up could involve up to 12,000 ballot papers.
