Today FM journalist to work for Govt

Veteran journalist Mark Costigan is to be appointed Deputy Government Press Secretary and the Head of Government Information Services, it emerged tonight.

Veteran journalist Mark Costigan is to be appointed Deputy Government Press Secretary and the Head of Government Information Services, it emerged tonight.

The 50-year-old will move from his post as political editor of the country’s national independent broadcaster, Today FM, to join the mandarins at Leinster House.

The widely respected reporter, who was hailed as an “enterprising journalist” by former US President Bill Clinton while on a recent trip to Ireland, worked previously as a radio presenter for RTÉ and with a number of independent radio stations.

Mr Costigan succeeds Iarla Mongey who steps down at the end of July, to further his career in the private sector.

Mr Costigan is married and has two teenage sons.
