Comic book superheroes Batman and Superman will do battle on the big screen if upcoming movies featuring the caped crusaders are hits at the box office.
Movie mogul Wolfgang Peterson was originally attached to a Batman vs Superman project in 2001, but casting agents struggled to find two top stars to fill the lead roles and the idea was shelved.
But Batman Begins producer Charles Roven is convinced the two men in tights will meet up - and he's keen to have their current incarnations, Christian Bale and Brandon Routh, in the title roles.
He tells website iesb.com: "It all depends on the success of Batman Begins and Superman Returns. The current script is superb."
In Batman vs Superman, the Caped Crusader's girlfriend dies and Superman is blamed. This leads to a conflict between the two crime fighters.
