West Ham manager Harry Redknapp was delighted to hear that his midfield trio were included in the England squad.

Joe Cole, Frank Lampard and Michael Carrick were all selected in a youthful 31-man squad to face Spain at Villa Park next Wednesday.

"This is really nice news for all three youngsters," said Redknapp.

"They have all worked hard this season and deserve it.

"I am sure they will be able to make the step-up, it won't bother them at all."

When England won the World Cup in 1966 there were three West Ham players in the team - skipper Bobby Moore and goalscorers Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters.
