Gunners to sign van Persie - report

Arsenal are reportedly poised to secure the signature of Feyenoord winger Robin van Persie on a four-year contract.

Arsenal are reportedly poised to secure the signature of Feyenoord winger Robin van Persie on a four-year contract.

Feyenoord technical director Mark Wotte was quoted as saying on Dutch teletext on Wednesday: “Arsenal have signed Robin van Persie on a contract for four years. The two clubs will finalise the last details today.”

The news follows a week of speculation concerning the future of van Persie.

The highly-rated 20-year-old had been linked to a number of clubs around Europe, including PSV Eindhoven, Bundesliga leaders Werder Bremen and Spanish side Sevilla.

Arsenal also renewed their interest in the player and the newly-crowned English champions may finally have got their man.

The Gunners made a bid for van Persie in the January transfer window, but Feyenoord turned them down and Arsene Wenger brought in Sevilla’s Jose Reyes instead.

Van Persie joined Feyenoord in 2001 as a striker but is also able to play out wide.
