Twenty-five Indian people have had their period of detention extended by a further eight days in Limerick.

The group disembarked from a flight bound for Cuba almost two weeks ago, and initially refused to leave.

They had maintained that their arrival en masse at Shannon was coincidental, however, all men had valid visas for Cuba and one member of the group had been in contact with a known associate of a human trafficker in Denmark.

Gardai have said that they arrived in Ireland as part of a criminal conspiracy. An investigation into claims of coincidence has been launched by the Garda National information Bureau.

Hearing this evidence, Judge Tom O'Donnell granted the extension by eight days.
