The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, has defended the Government's approach to funding for children with special needs.
Mr Ahern was reacting to Dáil questions from Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny.
Mr Kenny said there was immense anger among parents who are forced to take legal action in an effort to secure state-funded educate their autistic children.
Mr Ahern, however, denied that the Government was shunning its responsibilities and said the Irish education system for autistic children was in line with international best practice.
