Oscar winning actress Dame Helen Mirren will share some of her wisdom tonight from a lifetime on the screen with students at Trinity College Dublin.

She is the latest in a growing line of film stars to accept an invitation to speak at the university’s Philosophical Society.

Ruth Faller, president of the society, said large crowds are expected for the talk in the Graduates’ Memorial Building at 8pm this evening.

“It is a pleasure to bring a guest of her calibre to Trinity,” she said.

“Her performance in The Queen was astounding, and I am interested in how she managed to get into Queen Elizabeth’s mind.”

Mirren has recently become best known for her performance as Queen Elizabeth II in the 2006 film, The Queen.

The film documented the actions of the monarchy in the days after Princess Diana’s death, with Mirren’s acclaimed performance winning her the 2007 Academy Award for Best Actress.

In a long film career spanning almost four decades, she has starred in many well-known big screen productions including Caligula, Gosford Park, and Calendar Girls.

She is also an accomplished stage actor and has won four Emmy awards for her television work, including for her role in Prime Suspect: The Final Act.
