The Government has won a vote on cancer services in the northwest.

The vote followed a heated debate in the Dáil last night.

The leader of Fine Gael Enda Kenny called on Fianna Fáil TDs from Mayo and Sligo to support the retention of cancer services in the counties.

However the deputies instead backed the policy of Health Minister Mary Harney.
