A professional footballer has been charged with affray and criminal damage following an incident outside a hotel last December.
Allan Smart, then a striker with Oldham Athletic, was arrested in December last year over an incident outside the Pennine Way Hotel in the town centre in the early hours of the morning.
Smart, who no longer plays for the second division side, was interviewed at the time and released on police bail pending further inquiries.
Now the former Oldham striker has been charged and will appear before magistrates in the town next week.
A police spokeswoman said: "A 27-year-old man has been charged with criminal damage and affray following an incident at the Pennine Way Hotel on December 19. He is due to appear at Oldham magistrates' court on June 17.
"A 32-year-old man has also been charged in connection with the same incident and is also to appear in court on June 17."
