Fire Brigade investigates mysterious manhole blast in Dublin

Investigations are underway after a manhole cover blew in Dublin City centre this morning.

This incident happened at traffic lights at the junction of Merrion Street and Baggot Street.

Dublin Fire Brigade were called at around 10.20am this morning.

District officer at Tara Street, David Kavanagh, says everyone is now trying to find out the cause.

"We have eircom here, we have the ESB here, and we have the gas company here," he said.

"So obviously [they are] checking the combination to see where actually the source of the ignition came from to cause the explosion."
