Damson will head for next month’s Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot at York with trainer David Wachman promising that she will have improved for her recent outing.
The Group One-winning juvenile dead-heated for ninth in last weekend’s Irish 1000 Guineas, having travelled strongly to lead a furlong from the finish only to weaken in the closing stages.
However, her Irish trainer appeared to be satisfied with that run after a far from satisfactory preparation.
“She is in good form and came out of the race very well,” he said. “We will aim for the Coronation, all things being equal, and there will be a marked improvement in her.
“She just did not get home on the ground (good to yielding) that day. She has oodles of class and as I had said, the race came a week too soon. But the cards had been dealt and she had a fighting chance. I’m not concerned whether she will stay the trip, but we’ll know at York.”
Damson finished six places behind another Wachman-trained runner Luas Line at the Curragh last Sunday, and could meet her again at the Royal meeting.
Wachman added: “She ran well last week and we might head to the Coronation with her, but she is entered in the Ribblesdale as well. She’s a very good filly, underrated I think.”
Greenham Stakes winner Indesatchel could be making the trip over too, having finished a short-head second to Shamardal in the French 2000 Guineas despite a troubled passage in the race.
“He’s been working solidly at home and hopefully will go for the St James’s Palace, ground permitting, although he wants the opposite ground to Damson,” Wachman said.
