Dettori was a head further adrift on Atlantis Star, and trainer Saeed bin Suroor revealed that the pair were evenly matched.

Bin Suroor said: "I said to Frankie before the race that there wasn't much between them and it was a hard decision for him.

"Seven furlongs suits the winner well, but I think he will get a mile now.

"There is no plan, but we will try and find a Group race for him."

Dettori earlier partnered his first winner for former champion jockey Pat Eddery as he drove Contract Caterer home in the toteexacta Nursery.

The Italian had not previously ridden for Eddery in his four years with a training licence, and made his first ride for his former weighing room colleague count when hitting the target on the 9-4 joint-favourite.

Eddery said: "That is Frankie's first ride for me, so you could say he has a 100% record!"

He added of the winner: "He was bred for a mile and a half so we will pack him up and keep him for next year."

Dettori further demonstrated his prowess in the saddle by completing a 17-1 double as Sarah Park (9-2) narrowly foiled Effigy in the Book Up For Goodwood Revival Handicap.

John Gosden's Namaskar (13-2) made a most-promising debut when weaving through the field and displaying a lethal turn of foot to nail Silent Secret in the EBF September Maiden Fillies' Stakes.

Gosden's travelling head lad Les Reynolds said: "Jimmy (Fortune) said she travelled well and picked up nicely.

"She is still learning and is a little babyish, but she has done nothing wrong today."

Sam Twiston-Davies, the son of Grand National-winning trainer Nigel, got off the mark on the level as Soundbyte powered away with the Bollinger Champagne Challenge Series Amateur Riders' Handicap.

The 16-year-old has two wins to his name over jumps, and landed his first Flat success at the third attempt as John Gallagher's well-backed 6-1 chance kicked clear two furlongs out for a comprehensive triumph.

Twiston-Davies said: "I have had two wins over hurdles - one for the Pipes and one for dad - and have ridden winners in pony races, too.

"I spent the summer with Andrew Balding but I am back at school now. I want to get my A-levels and hopefully go to university, but I will always stay in racing."

Marcus Tregoning was on the mark at Lingfield, and 20-1 outsider Tahkeem completed a near 57-1 double for the back-to-form trainer when landing the Buy A £10,000 Racing Post Bonus Yearling Maiden Stakes.

Jockey Tadhg O'Shea commented: "I have ridden her in work on a couple of occasions. She is lazy in her work so Marcus put cheekpieces on her and they have done the job."
