Newcastle United look certain to keep the pressure on the Premiership's front runners after Nolberto Solano gave them a three-goal lead over Everton with two goals in three minutes.

The home side led 3-2 before Solano found the net in the 71st and 73rd minutes.

The Toffees enjoyed the best of the early action as Duncan Ferguson gave them the lead in the sixth minute.

However, two goals, from Alan Shearer and Carl Cort, in the 12th and 15th minutes put the home side ahead.

But Niclas Alexandersen's 35th-minute opportunist goal kept the Toffees in contention only for them to fall behind again through an Andy O'Brien goal.

The game still looked wide open but Solano's double strike looks to have put the game beyond Everton.
