Another award for MacArthur
Ellen MacArthur has been named as one of the International Sailing Federation’s sailors of the year for a second time.
MacArthur, who is currently competing in the Transat Jacques Vabres from Le Havre to Brazil, was honoured at the Rolex World Sailor of the Year Awards in Singapore.
MacArthur set a new record for a non-stop single-handed journey around the world earlier this year.
“I was fortunate enough to have recived this Award in 2001 and it is as much of a surprise and honour to me now as it was back then,” MacArthur said.
“The International Sailing Federation provides a great service to the world of sailing, by utilising the 117 member nations it continues to promote sailing by raising its profile and encouraging as many people as possible to become involved in this sport.”
Spanish pair Fernando Echavarri Erasun and Anton Paz Blanco were the other award winners.
