Gama workers to protest in Dublin

Workers from the Turkish construction firm at the centre of a wage row are due to mount a protest in Dublin today seeking the immediate publication of a report into their pay and conditions.

Workers from the Turkish construction firm at the centre of a wage row are due to mount a protest in Dublin today seeking the immediate publication of a report into their pay and conditions.

The report was commissioned by Enterprise Minister Micheál Martin amid allegations Gama Construction was paying extremely low wages to its Turkish workers in Ireland.

Gama said the remainder of the employees' pay was being lodged in special bank accounts in the Netherlands but the workers say they were never told about this until their situation was raised publicly.

The company is due to take a High Court case today seeking to block the publication of a labour inspector's report into the matter and the workers are planning to protest outside the court to express their anger at the firm.

They are also planning a Dáil protest tomorrow demanding the Government intervene to secure their unpaid wages.
