Man to appear in High Court over US child pornography charge

A man wanted in the United States for allegedly distributing and advertising child pornography online will find today if a request has been made by the American authorities to extradite him.

28-year-old Eric Eoin Marques is due back before the High Court today.

He is accused of being the largest facilitator of child porn on the planet and the US authorities want to press charges against him.

Marques holds dual US and Irish citizenship and was arrested at his Dublin apartment in Mountjoy Square on August 1 on foot of a provisional warrant issued by federal court in Maryland.

Last week the High Court was told that it is anticipated the US authorities will make a formal request to the Irish state for his extradition.

The 28-year-old is in custody after he refused bail on grounds he is a flight risk and might interfere with evidence.
