Belfast coastguard lifts canoeists to safety

The Belfast Coastguard has rescued two army canoeists from Murlough Bay in Co Down.

The Belfast Coastguard has rescued two army canoeists from Murlough Bay in Co Down.

It is understood the men got into difficulty during severe weather conditions.

Lifeboats were launched at Newcastle and the Irish Coastguard joined the search in Dundrum Bay.

The two men were lifted to safety by the coastguard helicopter and have since been transferred to Daisy Hill Hospital in Newry.
