Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny has said Justice Minister Michael McDowell and his predecessors have serious questions to answer about garda corruption in Donegal.
In a report published yesterday, the Morris tribunal said the investigation into the death of cattle dealer Richie Barron in Co Donegal in 1996 was "prejudiced, tendentious and utterly negligent".
It found that gardaí had tried to frame two innocent men for murdering Mr Barron, when in fact he had died in a hit-and-run accident.
The Morris Tribunal had already concluded that two senior gardaí in Donegal - Superintendent Kevin Lennon and Detective Noel McMahon - staged fake explosives finds to further their own careers.
Mr Kenny told the Dáil today that Mr McDowell had questions to answer about his attitude to the actions of certain gardaí in Donegal.
The Fine Gael leader said the current Justice Minister, in his previous role as Attorney General, "advised the then Government on every occasion that there was no need for a public inquiry into these matters".
