Johnny Murtagh will not be appealing against the ban that will force him to miss two days of next week’s Glorious Goodwood meeting.
The Irishman was suspended on July 26 and 28 for excessive use of the whip when riding Firenze to victory in the European Breeders Fund Fillies’ Handicap at Newmarket on Friday evening.
“The suspension means he will still be able to ride Soviet Song in the Sussex Stakes, as he is allowed a deferral for the Group One day on July 27, so he has decided to take the ban covering the other two days,” Murtagh’s agent Dave Pollington told the Racing Post.
He will however miss the chance to ride in six Group races at Goodwood as well as several valuable handicaps.
