The director of a controversial new online training course for primary school teachers has rejected criticism of the course from established teacher training colleges.

The internet-based course, run by Hibernia College, has been approved by the Education Minister and accredited by the Higher Education and Training Awards Council.

However, students at St Patrick’s College of Education in Dublin are planning a protest against the new course on Wednesday and the president of Mary Immaculate College in Limerick has claimed that it puts the educational well-being of children at risk.
