Tanterari is set to bid for a hat-trick in Sunday’s totesport.com Becher Chase over the Grand National fences at Aintree.
David Pipe’s charge has already won at Fontwell and Wincanton this term, taking the Desert Orchid Silver Cup on the latter occasion.
The eight-year-old finished fourth over the big fences in the totepool Grand Sefton Chase last season and Pipe is hoping he may develop into a National type this year.
“He’s probably got to improve a bit to get in the Grand National but he’s entered in two races over the National fences on Sunday and the plan at the moment is to go for the Becher Chase,” he explained.
“He’s run over those fences before and finished fourth in the two-five race and he seem to have improved this season.
“He’s put up two good performances, he won’t have much weight in the Becher Chase and should go there with a good chance.”
Pipe is also likely to have a runner in the Betfair Handicap Hurdle at Haydock on Saturday as dual purpose performer Korelo could take his chance.
“It’s hard to find a race for Korelo. He’s 150-odd over hurdles and 130 plus over fences so it’s difficult to find races for him. But if the ground is soft, he may go to Haydock,” he told At The Races.
