A two-year-old girl has died following a hit-and-run in Dublin yesterday evening.

The toddler was left in a serious condition in hospital after being struck by a car on the North Road at Phoenix Park.

A 24-year-old man, who was arrested a short time later, is being questioned by Gardaí at Blanchardstown Garda Station.

Gardaí at Cabra are investigating the collision, which happened at around 6.25pm yesterday evening, where a car failed to stop at the scene.

The child was removed to the Children's University Hospital at Temple Street, where she died in the early hours of this morning.
