Scotsman Allan McNish clocked the fifth-fastest time of a rain-hit day in Barcelona yesterday as Toyota officially arrived in the Formula One paddock.
The Japanese marque will make their F1 debut this season and in the team’s first test session of the year, McNish exploited a dry morning to clock a time on one minute 26.108 seconds before the rain fell.
Fellow Scot David Coulthard, in a McLaren, led the way over five seconds clear of his countryman, with Ralf Schumacher’s Williams second fastest and Pedro de la Rosa’s Jaguar third.
Briton’s Anthony Davidson comfortably out-paced more experienced BAR team-mate Olivier Panis in the 2002 car to record the fourth fastest time of the day.
