A family row over where a suicide victim should be buried led to disturbances last night near Belfast city centre.

Police were called to the scene after 500 people protested outside a house in a Catholic area following a week of similar demonstrations.

Nobody was injured, but a section of the crowd broke off and attacked a house in the area.

The dispute centres around a young suicide victim who was buried last year in his wife’s family plot.

The man’s mother has since died and her last wish was to be buried with her son.

Papers to exhume the dead man have since been lodged with Belfast City Council.

Local priest Fr Aidan Troy has been called in to mediate between the two families involved.
