Survey: Large majority supports nurses' work stoppages

A survey by the Irishhealth.com website has found that three quarters of people support the industrial action being taken by nurses.

Members of the INO and PNA staged the second in a series of planned one-hour stoppages today at hospitals and mental health facilities in Dublin and Roscommon.

The nurses have been criticised in some quarters amid claims that their action is causing A&E disruption and forcing hospitals to postpone certain operations.

However, just over one-fifth of those who responded to the Irishhealth.com survey said they opposed the industrial action.

The website's publisher says that, while it has detected some block voting in the survey, it believes the findings do reflect public opinion.
