Boost for Fianna Fáil and Martin in new opinion poll

Fianna Fáil have moved eight points clear of Sinn Féin and Micheál Martin is the most popular leader in the country, according to a new opinion poll out tomorrow.

The Sunday Times 'Behaviour and Attitudes Poll' also shows that all the other main parties in the Dáil have lost support in the past two months.

This poll was taken over the past fortnight among a sample of almost a thousand voters and shows signs of a recovery in Fianna Fáil's fortunes.

Martin is now the most popular leader in the country and his party has increased its support by 6% since September.

Fine Gael are still the most popular party in the country on 30%, down one point in the past two months.

But Fianna Fáil are in second place on 22%, and well ahead of Sinn Fein in third place on 14%, down 4%. Labour has slipped two points to 12 per cent.

Independents are unchanged on 19% and the Greens are up one to 3%.

The poll also shows that just a quarter of voters are satisfied with the government.

Martin's satisfaction ratings are at 42%, just ahead of Enda Kenny on 41%. Gerry Adams is on 40%.
