Ashley Cole’s move from Arsenal to Chelsea appeared to be edging closer to completion on transfer-deadline day when Robert Huth’s move to Middlesbrough was delayed.
The paperwork for Huth’s move from Stamford Bridge needed Peter Kenyon’s signature, but the Chelsea chief executive was not available to sign, with his Boro counterpart Keith Lamb hinting at his whereabouts.
“They have told me the deal will be completed and they have told Robert it will as well,” Lamb told a press conference to unveil new signing Jonathan Woodgate, televised by Sky Sports.
“It’s a timing issue, Peter can’t be in two places at once – I don’t think it would take a genius to work out where he is at the moment.
“He’s going to sign it on his return to Stamford Bridge.”
Cole has been reported to be poised for a move to the Premiership champions, while William Gallas’ future at Stamford Bridge has also appeared uncertain, with Arsenal among the teams believed to be interested.
Boro are also trying to tie up a deal for Charlton midfielder Jason Euell.
