Jason Robinson has been tipped to make the British Lions tour to Australia this summer.
Barrie-Jon Mather believes that although the Sale winger failed to make the provisional 70-man squad he will be a strong contender for the finalised tour party.
Since Graham Henry's initial squad was named Robinson produced a sparkling cameo performance in England's Calcutta Cup victory over Scotland.
And with two Six Nations Championship matches to come Mather is backing his old team-mate to clinch a tour spot.
"Even though at the minute he's not among the 70 names I think they might just find room for him some way," said Mather.
"Jason has got a good head on his shoulders. He's just a massive talent at whatever game he's going to play, league or union.
"He played well against Scotland when he got a bit of the ball and showed what he can do."
