Bacall blasts 'shocking' behaviour of loved-up Cruise
Screen siren Lauren Bacall has blasted Tom Cruise’s erratic behaviour over his relationship with Katie Holmes.
The veteran actress said Cruise’s actions were “shocking", apparently referring to his stunning displays of emotion on live television.
“It’s inappropriate and vulgar and absolutely unacceptable to use your private life to sell anything commercially, but I think it’s kind of a sickness,” she told Time magazine.
Bacall, 81, was asked why she had objected to the use of the word “legend” to describe Cruise’s ex-wife Nicole Kidman.
“A legend involves the past,” she said. “I don’t like categories. This one is great and that one is great.
“The word great stands for something,” she added. “When you talk about a great actor, you’re not talking about Tom Cruise.”
Cruise, 43, has come in for repeated criticism since he embarked on a whirlwind romance with Dawson’s Creek star, 26-year-old Holmes.
The newly engaged couple have very publicly flaunted their relationship and have been the subject of endless speculation and conspiracy theories.
Actress Brooke Shields recently slammed Cruise’s “ridiculous rant” after he criticised her for taking anti-depressants to cope with post-natal depression. She branded his comments a “disservice to women everywhere".
