Anti-poverty campaigner Bob Geldof and olympic gold medallist Ronnie Delaney are to receive the freedom of Dublin city.
The move was approved at a meeting of the city council last night after Fianna Fáil dropped an objection it had lodged on procedural grounds.
Geldof and Delaney were nominated by Lord Mayor Catherine Byrne, but the Fianna Fáil councillors accused her of not following proper procedures.
They eventually dropped their objection following a short recess.
