Transplant patient gets wrong kidney

A hospital in the US accidentally transplanted a kidney into the wrong patient.

The USC University Hospital in Los Angeles, California had to shut down its kidney transplant program after the mistake was discovered.

Luckily, the patient in question was unharmed because the organ was a close enough match, said Bryan Stewart, a spokesman for One Legacy, which was notified of the error by the hospital.

A statement said the program will temporarily be halted - but would not disclose how the error was made.
