Doyle rescues Rovers at Longford

Longford Town 1 Shamrock Rovers 1

Keith Doyle earned Rovers a replay they scarcely deserved with a freak equaliser as this third round tie goes to a replay at Richmond Park on Tuesday night.

Doyle’s speculative cross in from the left on 79 minutes bounced into the net without touching anyone.

Dessie Baker appeared to have given holders Longford their passage though to the quarter-finals with a wonder goal five minutes earlier.

Eric Lavine laid off Stephen O’Brien’s kick out and Baker struck a brilliant right-foot volley to the net from 20 yards.

It was a lead Town deserved for a dominant performance.
