The National Car Test introduced last year has been blamed for a 33% drop in the number of second-hand cars registered in Ireland since April.

The National Car Test introduced last year has been blamed for a 33% drop in the number of second-hand cars registered in Ireland since April.

Central Statistics Office figures show that used car sales are currently running at less than half the figure of two years ago.

The government-sponsored National Car Test, which requires all vehicles over four years old to have a safety and mechanical certificate approved by government-appointed mechanics, has been blamed for the decrease.
