EU to finalise sanctions on Gadaffi today

European officials have said that EU governments will sign off on sanctions against the Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi this afternoon.

European officials have said that EU governments will sign off on sanctions against the Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi this afternoon.

The move has been brought forward to ensure action is taken against Colonel Gaddafi as soon as possible.

He has been trying to crush a revolt which has ended his control in the east of the country and is holding the government at bay near Tripoli.
