The BAR driver, who finished fifth at the weekend, was just 0.01 seconds faster than the Renault of Jarno Trulli while Ferrari tester Luca Badoer was third quickest.

David Coulthard got on track for the first time this week and the Scot was eighth fastest, just ahead of Scott Dixon.

The New Zealander, who won the Indy Racing League last season, completed 95 laps on his second test with Williams and again acquitted himself well.
