Gardaí in Kildare have seized around €40,000 worth of drugs.

Gardaí in the Athy and Newbridge areas, assisted by the Regional Support Unit, made the cannabis and heroin seizure at around midnight in Athy.

They arrested two men, aged 47 and 38, for possession and they have been detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at Newbridge and Kildare Garda stations.

It was carried out as part of an intelligence-led operation targeting the sale and supply of controlled drugs in the Kildare area.
