The centre back missed Ireland’s mid-week encounter with Brazil after suffering a leg injury in the Carling Cup final setback against Manchester United.

Villa boss Martin O’Neill has no fresh major injury worries as his side aim to stop Reading adding a third Premier League scalp after their wins over Liverpool and Burnley in the competition.

Skipper Stiliyan Petrov and defender James Collins did not train today but came through mid-week games for Bulgaria and Wales unscathed.
